Family holidays: Enjoy four of the best theme parks in France
A visit to France offers delicious cuisine and great wines, along with beautiful scenery, history and gorgeous beaches. However, when taking the family on a French holiday, it is good to explore the various theme parks all over the country, ensuring fun for the whole family. Next time you take a relaxing holiday break with the children, take time out to explore the many and varied attractions at one of the four featured theme parks mentioned below. Disneyland ParisNo list of French theme parks would be complete without Disneyland Paris, set in the new town of Marne-la-Vallée, around 32 km east of the Paris city centre. Originally dubbed Euro Disney Resort, this theme park is the most visited in France, and, indeed the whole of Europe.
The family can meet all the popular Disney characters, including Donald Duck, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and so much more, with adventurous rides for all ages. Enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean and Disney Dreams, plus the park is introducing another excellent theme in January next year with the advent of the new Season of the Force Star Wars attraction. FuturoscopeFor something a little different, try the Parc du Futuroscope. This futuristic theme park is based in the communes of Chasseneuil-du-Poitou and Jaunay-Clan, around 10 km north of Poitiers. The park uses various cinematographic futuroscope, multimedia and audio-visual techniques and offers both 3D and 4D cinemas, along with other shows and attractions.
Among the many attractions on offer, enjoy The Time Machine, a dark ride which has been based on the game Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time. Enjoy Dynamic!, a movie theatre featuring Virus Attack. For the younger children, Children’s World (Le Monde des Enfants) offers 20 outdoor games, sure to keep them amused for hours. The kids will also love the 4D experience of one of their favourite movies, Ice Age. Walibi Parks/AstérixWhile Walibi parks can be found all over Europe, there are 11 in total in France, including the popular Parc Astérix. Fans of the various Astérix characters will enjoy what was France’s first theme park, including Europe’s largest wooden rollercoaster. For the more daring, the park has a looping rollercoaster which turns riders upside down a total of seven times.
Parc Astérix is located in the city of Plailly, approximately 20 km from Château de Chantilly, around 35 km from Paris and 32 km from Disneyland Paris. OK CorralFor those who love a Wild West theme, OK Corral is located in Cuges les Pins, Bouches-du-Rhône, and offers exciting options like a stay in a teepee, along with various re-enactments of some of the most famous Western stories, including its namesake, the gunfight at the OK Corral. The original gunfight, which lasted 30 seconds, was between lawmen and a group of outlaws called the Cowboys and took place in Tombstone, Arizona back in 1881. There are also various rides and Indian stunt shows to amuse the whole family.
